Today we share Ntholeng Makoko’s inspiring journey

We’re delighted to share Ntholeng Makoko’s inspiring journey, a shining example of resilience and entrepreneurship from Edenville, Free State.

In 2022, SerDev partnered with The Impact Catalyst, facilitated by IDC, to launch the Social Employment Fund (SEF) programme.

This initiative impacted the lives of over 1200 individuals in the SerDev Ecosystem, offering temporary employment opportunities and igniting dreams of economic independence.

Ntholeng, a 37-year-old Edenville resident, embraced this opportunity with unwavering determination.

Despite the challenges of water scarcity, she diligently tended to her vegetable garden, a vital part of the community’s upkeep.

Her dedication didn’t go unnoticed. In November 2023, Ntholeng entered the Food For Mzansi competition and emerged victorious, securing seeds to further expand her garden. Today, her plot flourishes, yielding an abundance of nutritious produce.

But Ntholeng’s journey doesn’t stop there. Buoyed by her success, she ventured into entrepreneurship, founding Lalarona Letlotlo Agricultural Production (PTY) LTD. Her company specialises in cultivating pumpkin, green beans, spinach, and more, supplying her community with fresh, locally sourced produce.

Ntholeng’s story is a testament to the transformative power of opportunity and hard work. Let’s celebrate her achievements and continue supporting local initiatives that empower individuals like her to thrive.

See Ntholeng’s progress, from 14 September to 23 November, 2023 and beyond.
