The Beatrix Animal Husbandry project with Sibanye Stillwater

In August 2021, SerDev was awarded the Beatrix Animal Husbandry tender in the Welkom area, marking a significant milestone in sustainable livestock farming. The project was initiated to relocate all livestock from the mine premises and to establish a sustainable livestock farming initiative in collaboration with livestock owners who are still employed at Beatrix Mine. As part of this initiative, the mine will provide land and infrastructure to support the farming operations. Each participating livestock owner is permitted to maintain up to 10 productive cows within the project, while the remaining cattle were returned to the owners’ hometowns. This effort not only ensures the responsible management of livestock but also fosters a sustainable livelihood for the mine’s workforce.
