Absa Farmers Development Programme

The Absa Farmers Development Programme, which ran from 2021 to 2023, aimed to empower farmers through targeted education and mentorship. The programme provided comprehensive on-farm monitoring and mentoring for 50 Tier 2 farmers, adopting an extension-style approach. These farmers managed a total of 41,000 hectares of land, with 5,500 cattle and 3,400 small livestock under their care.

The primary beneficiaries, 50 farmers, received NQF 4 training in Animal Production over a period of 8 months. Additionally, 200 online NQF 5 Beef Production e-learning courses were offered, which were successfully completed by participants.

To further enhance skills development, 360 short courses covering various cattle farming topics were delivered to farm workers and successors. These courses helped participants improve their understanding of economically viable farming practices.

A separate e-learning Financial and Business Management course was also made available to 90 registered beneficiaries, equipping them with the skills to become more bankable and financially literate.

By the conclusion of the programme, farmers had gained the necessary knowledge and support to secure loans with Absa, enabling them to further enhance and grow their farming enterprises.
